Si vous êtes à Bruxelles, ne ratez pas cette exposition dont voici l’intéressante présentation. Le Design Brésilien peut se targuer d’une longue histoire. Mélange d’influences européennes et indigènes, il évolue très vite vers une identité propre associant bois, cannage et cuir, matériaux omniprésents dans la nature. Dès les années 50,
 la création est encouragée grâce au volontarisme de Kubitschek, la fin de la guerre mondiale et la construction de Brasilia.

La Galerie Pierre Bergé & associés présente le mobilier de plusieurs grands designers brésiliens tels que Sergio Rodriguez, Jorge Zalszupin ou Carlo Hauner entre autre. Amour et respect du bois, confort et simplicité des formes, respect de l’environnement et expression de l’identité nationale, tels étaient les maîtres mots de ces personnages hors normes défendant avec ferveur leur trésor national, l’Amazonie. Ainsi l’Imbua, le palissandre ou le Jacaranda provenant très souvent de bois de récupération, contribuaient à des créations authentiques d’une finesse d’exécution exceptionnelle qui permet au mobilier brésilien de connaître un renouveau international et le 
hisse au sommet. 



Fort de ce constat, La Galerie Pierre Bergé & associés a trouvé intéressant de lier leurs travails talentueux à l’un des principaux acteurs du design néerlandais, le studio Makkink & Bey. Reconnu internationalement pour l’originalité de ses créations, ce studio travaille sur l’idée du recyclage des matières et crée un monde où la technique et les sciences ne sont pas éloignées d’une véritable poésie de l’objet. La galerie leur a soumis comme projet de réinterpréter, cinq pièces des designers brésiliens choisies par Jürgen Bey lui même. Partant de la beauté sensuelle d’une nature tropicale ayant inspiré leurs prédécesseurs, les designers néerlandais ont voulu confronter ces oeuvres au miroir déformant de la réalité contemporaine. Ils ont donc donné au bois de nouvelles proportions, l’ont marié au cuir, et lui ont inoculé leur propre langage  avec une touche d’humour (typiques de Makkink & Bey). Le bois Brésilien étant protégé, les designers se sont servis de bois nobles tels que le frêne ou le Noyer signant ainsi une véritable réappropriation de l’oeuvre des maîtres brésiliens.

If you are in Brussels, don’t miss this exhibition here is the interesting presentation. Brazilian Design can look back to a long history. Mix of European and native influences, it has evolved very fast creating it own identity, associating wood, cane and leather, materials so present in Brazil. From the 50s, the creation has been promoted thanks to the voluntarism of Kubitschek, the end of world war II and the construction of Brasilia city.

The Gallery of Pierre Bergé & associates presents furniture of several major Brazilian designers such as Sergio Rogriguez, Jorge Zalszupin or Carlo Hauner among others. Love and respect for the wood, comfort and simplicity of shapes,respect for the environment and the expression of the national identity, this were the key words of these very special people defending strongly their national treasure, Amazonie. Therefore Imbua, palissander or Jacaranda often coming from recycling wood,have contributed to authentic creations made with an exceptional execution which has allowed Brazilian furniture to be internationally known, reaching the top.

 

Having said that, the gallery thought it would be interesting to link Brazilian vintage to the talented work of the studio Makkink and Bey. Recognised internationally for his creation guided by recycling, science and poetry, the studio works in a world where techniques and sciences meet the poetry of the object. The Gallery of Pierre Bergé & associates has submitted them to a project, asking them to reinterpret five vintage pieces chosen by Jurgen himself, in a contemporary version. Starting with the sensual beauty of the tropical forest that has strongly inspired his predecessors, Dutch designers wanted to confront vintage with contemporary reality, using new proportions for the wood, marrying it to leather,and giving to the new pieces their own language with a humour touch (typical of Makkink and Bey!) Brazilian wood being protected today, the contemporary designers have used noble wood such as ash tree or american walnut signing then a real interpretation of the works by Brazilian designers.
